The Cal State Northridge, David Nazarian College of Business and Economics MBA offers the perfect marriage between theory and practice. It features an interdisciplinary foundation, elective and specialization options, a focus on analytical and communication skills.
The Nazarian MBA is a part-time, evening program designed to accommodate the needs of busy, mid-career professionals. Students of this program take one to two courses per semester and complete the program at their own pace. Students who take two courses per semester can earn their MBA in 2.5 years. Most courses are offered in the evenings, Monday through Thursday.
Students of the Nazarian MBA can take up to seven years to earn their degree and have the option of taking up to two semesters off during the program to tend to personal or professional duties.
The Nazarian MBA consists of 33 units and culminates in an MBA Consulting Project that requires students to conduct a feasibility study or produce a business plan for a local organization. MBA students may compete in the CSUN National Small Business Institute Experiential Learning Project of the Year Competition, a contest that allows students from CSUN to present their real-world business consulting projects to the Small Business Institute. CSUN MBA teams have won first place several times in recent years.

MBA Admissions Requirements
The Nazarian MBA is open to all bachelor’s degree holders with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a minimum GPA of 2.5 in their last 60 semester units. Other requirements include:
Work Experience
Applicants must have at least one year of post-baccalaureate work experience.
GMAT/GRE Scores
Applicants must submit GMAT/GRE scores for admission. A GMAT/GRE waiver may be considered for applicants who meet one of the following conditions:
- Holds a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and one year of full-time professional work experience
- Holds a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and one or more professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA, PMP, SHRM, etc.)
- Holds a master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.2
- Holds a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, JD, DDS, etc.)
Proof of English Proficiency
Students that hold undergraduate degrees from colleges or universities where English was not the principal language, must also show proof of English proficiency by submitting scores from one of the following exams:
- TOEFL: minimum 550 (paper score), minimum 79 (Internet score)
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- Pearson’s: minimum 58
Application Requirements
Application must include:
- Resume – must include places of employment (with dates), the positions held, responsibilities in each position, and any accolades, achievements, or special recognition earned
- Statement of Purpose – must detail professional background, career path, professional interests, and how the MBA will be used
- One to three Letters of Reference (professional or academic)
- Official transcripts

Business students can engage in exciting competitions like the Fast Pitch competition, an “elevator pitch” competition where teams of CSUN students pitch a new venture idea to a panel of judges. This competition is designed as a precursor to the Jeff Marine Bull Ring Competition, which serves as a launchpad for new business ideas created by CSUN students. The Bull Ring Competition provides students with outstanding opportunities to learn about launching and growing a new business venture through free workshops and dedicated mentoring and coaching sessions.
The CSUN Innovation Incubator serves as a hub for students to turn their business concepts into marketable programs and products and successful businesses. Students of the Innovation Incubator receive close mentorship from business leaders with experience developing startups.
