MBAs and Other Programs Offered Through the University of Massachusetts Global, School of Business and Professional Studies
The University of Massachusetts Global School of Business and Professional Studies graduate programs are offered in two, distinct online formats:
- Instructor-Led, Session-Based Coursework: Offered in eight-week sessions, with six start dates throughout the year, instructor-led courses feature a blend of online classroom lectures and group sessions. It also includes other coursework that must be completed by a specific date set by the instructor.
- Competency-Based, Self-Paced Coursework: Referred to as UMass Global MyPath, competency-based courses are completely self-paced, allowing students to move through their coursework on their own schedule, with no set deadlines or due dates. As students complete a section, they automatically move on to the next. This program can be started at any time.
MBA
UMass Global’s MBA is a two-part program that consists of (1) eight core courses that are focused on strategy, management, and leadership development across sectors and (2) a focus/emphasis area of four courses that students customize. Students can choose from a broad range of business courses to design a program that best suits their specific career goals or select one of the 10 predesigned emphasis areas.
This MBA features a streamlined core that allows students to finish the program in fewer months, and an applied curriculum that features case studies, group projects, and real-world simulations. This program culminates in a Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage Capstone course.

MBA Admissions Requirements
Applicants for the School of Business and Professional Studies MBA must demonstrate their ability to succeed in a graduate-level program by earning a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university AND fulfilling ONE of the following admission options:
Note: The GMAT/GRE is NOT required for admission into UMass Global’s MBA.
Admission by GPA
Students who qualify for Admission by GPA must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 calculated in the last 30 semester credits of their bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program.
Admission by Prior Graduate Degree
Applicants who qualify for Admission by Prior Graduate Degree must have a master’s degree from a regionally accredited university.
Admission by Portfolio
Applicants who qualify for Admission by Portfolio must submit a portfolio that demonstrates they are prepared for graduate studies. The portfolio should include:
- Writing samples that show graduate-level communications and analytical skills
- A detailed resume showing professional experience, achievements, awards, professional recognition, etc.
- Letters of reference from persons who can attest to your ability to complete graduate-level work
- Personal letter of explanation detailing the reasons why you feel you’re a good candidate for graduate business study
If your portfolio meets approval of the School Graduate Admissions Committee, you may be invited for an interview.
International Applicants
The MBA is available to international students in India and Latin America through a partnership between UMass Global and Emeritus (see International Student Supports).
International students must submit their transcripts to the International Education Research Foundation (IERF), World Education Services, or other National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)-accredited member institution for a transcript evaluation.

American Collegiate Live

Classes through American Collegiate Live are delivered in real time and taught by UMass Global faculty and staff.
